If you’re like me, you don’t like contracts. We have plenty of “no contract” phones available in the “Cell Phones” category. I was a customer of Verizon for 11 years, until last month. I got tired of paying $300+ cellphone bills and chose to do something about it. I called Verizon and questioned for any help they could give. I received the cold shoulder and was told to pay my bill or go to collections. Now I am not an unreasonable man, I know I have to pay my bill, but the lack of care and courtesy that Verizon showed to a customer who has been with them for 11 years was enough for me to drop them. I wasn’t asking them to dissolve my bill. No, I just wanted to drop a line that I didn’t need any longer.

I was told I signed a 2 year contract, which I already knew, and that if I dropped I would be charged $500. Even though the line only had a few months left on the 2 year contract. I told them my situation, that I could no longer afford the $360 phone bill and was only looking for a small help. They would rather lose a customer of 11 years and collect the enormous fees for early termination, than to keep the customer for years to come.

I have switched to Cricket, and no longer have a contract that I am stuck with.
